Child Stories: Aakrit Magar

Story Aakriti Magar

Akriti Magar is 5 years old girl, living and going to School in Kathmandu. Akriti was born in 2011 Oct 3 in Samsetu, Gumtang 7, Sindhupalchwok, north of Kathmandu, hard hit place of the Earthquake. She is reading in UKG in Dibyo Jyoti School, in Lalitpur, which is 10 minute walk from their hostel. She lives in home made by terra block in the wall, floors of tiles and tin roof room in the Church compound.

She is a little girl with calm and innocent face. She doesn't talk to stranger but she can become best friend once you steal her heart. She is very cute and lovely.Aakriti Magar, Orphans in Nepal

Her breakfast usually is donut, black tea, biscuit, egg, fried rice and fruits. Her common set of food will are Dal, Bhat, Tarkari, Akriti likes writing, and she does not like fighting. Her favorite food is Momo, and Paijama is her favorite clothing. Tiger is her lovely animal, and Mango is her sweet fruit among the fruits. She likes, Pani puri, Chatpate and Dhungri which is sold in Church compound. She has one brother whose name is Anup. Her biggest fear is the ground shaking, storms and dust flying in the air because that resembles her memory of the Earthquake.

Aakriti is shy to the strangers and she loves writing and drawing of images. Her voice is very thin or small; you need to be very attentive to hear her. At hostel, she is free from daily routine because she is the youngest of all the kids in the Church hostel.

Akriti was 3 years and 8 months when she saw the big shacking and dust like storms flying over the sky. She trembled and she was rolled as ball when 7.9M Earthquake hit Nepal. She saw her Mother's dead body being moved out of the fallen Church building.

That night Aakriti was terrified and she did not know what will happen next. They slept in the open space that night of the Earthquake, counting stars at night and holding her big sisters, Ankita's hand. She heard the screams of the people, as they were hurt by pain, and there were dead bodies everywhere.

Their house was totally destroyed, and their only means of income, small piece of land, was overridden by rocks and pierced land, they can't use it again because it is too devastating. They became homeless, her father and other two children, total four members in the family, became homeless. Her father's only piece of field where they use to grow food was destroyed.

Your support helps her pay her monthly school tuition fees, including double uniforms, books, copies and writing materials, bags, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Church provides Sunday school, dance and drama. Chameli, a mother of two looks after Aakriti, who is also a staff for the Children, cooks food for all of them. Some time they are taken to retreat and Fun Park for outdoor fun.

I met Aaktiri, when I went to pray for the surviving members of Earthquake, in the Church in Samsetu in Sindhupalchowk which was fallen upon the believers on the Church day and killed 23 of them. One of them was Aakriti's Mother.

When Aakriti grow up, she wants to become a medical Nurse.
